URTICA

PRÉAMBULE
J'ai une fascination pour le monstrueux. Mais le monstre, loin d'être accident de la création, est une émanation de la nature que j'apprivoise en le transformant en art.
Je compare mon travail à un laboratoire, une antichambre dans laquelle j'opère à partir de tensions entre rationalité et rêve, nature et artifice. J'y collectionne les objets les plus bizarres me donnant ainsi la sensation de saisir le processus de création du monde. Par là même, j'acquière les secrets intimes de notre univers par ce qu'il propose de plus fantastique.
A la fin, mes objets sont le fruit d'une jubilation pour le décoratif, souvent empreints d'étrange et de mélancolie.

Le "règne" est le plus haut niveau de classification des êtres vivants. Les règnes organisent la biodiversité en fonction des caractères communs partagés.
En 1866, Ernst Haeckel élabore pour la première fois une classification du vivant en 3 règnes. Depuis, ce rapport n'a de cesse d'évoluer. La science contemporaine dénombre 6 règnes depuis le dernier rapport de Carl Woese, 1977.

Chaque créature est nommée par le nom du règne duquel elle est issue. Je nomme ainsi, Animalia, Plantae, Protista, Fungi, Bacteria, et Archaea mes six découvertes. Chacune, de par sa forme, sa typologie, ou sa couleur, est le reflet de sa famille biologique.
Je constate néanmoins une homologie : ces six organismes sont tous dotés d'épines urticantes.
Cette découverte permet d'établir une relation évidente entre les six règnes établis par la biologie moderne.
Il s'agit peut-être d'une avancée dans la compréhension de notre monde tel que nous le connaissons. Pour la première fois depuis 1977, le rapport à 6 règnes de Woese est remis en question.
Je nomme URTICA le règne unique.
Chacune de mes créatures, immune et non-préhensible, témoigne d'une évolution offensive radicale, véloce, et très inquiétante.

FOREWORD
I have a fascination for monstrousness. But the monster, far from being an accident of creation, is an emanation of the nature which I tame by transforming it into art.
I compare my work to a laboratory, an anteroom in which I operate with tensions between rationality and dream, nature and subtlety. I collect the strangest objects thus giving me the sensation of seizing the process of creation of the world. Then I acquire the secrets of our universe by what it proposes of more fantastic.
At the end, my objects are the fruit of a jubilation for the ornamental, often filled with strangeness and melancholy.

Every creature is named by the reign from which it arises.
I so name, Animalia, Plantae, Protista, Fungi, Bacteria, and Archaea my six discoveries. Each, due to its shape, its typology, or its color, is the reflexion of its biological family.
However I notice a homology : these six bodies are all endowed with urticant thorns.
This discovery allows to establish an obvious relation between six reigns established by the modern biology.
It is perhaps an advance in the understanding of our world as we know it. For the first time since 1977, Woese's report in 6 reigns is questioned.
I name URTICA the unique reign.
Each of my creatures, not prehensible and immune, testifies of radical and offenssive evolution, that is quick, and very disturbing.
